Huawei Mate SE receives Oreo update

Huawei Mate SE smartphones are now receiving the much-awaited upgrade to the Android 8.0 Oreo-based operating system. The update is now rolling out to the Mate SE users in Canada. However, the company has told us that it will soon roll out to other regions as well. The update basically upgrades the Huawei’s custom UI named as EMUI. The new update brings EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo build. The company has also released a long list of changelogs for the update.

If you don’t know, Mate SE is Huawei’s foreign version of Honor 7X. Mate SE is a higher variant of Honor 7X with Huawei branding and a slightly more cost. Both of the smartphones feature almost same features and form factors. So, the upgrade also brings the same changes on both devices. Huawei has already upgraded Honor 7X devices to Oreo-based EMUI 8.0. The same changelog is now available for Huawei Mate SE smartphones too. The new features include a new floating navigation dock, an updated settings menu, a recycle bin in your gallery, “seamless LinkedIn integration” (because why not), the ability to link two Bluetooth devices up, and face unlock.

In addition to these, they have included latest Android security patches and more security improvements for the devices. It also contains several performance enhancements and other reliability improvements. However, the update is now bug-free and you can install it without any possible issues. It weighs around 2.0GB for the update and it is recommended to download with a stable Wi-Fi connection. Make sure you have enough storage space available on your device to store the downloaded upgrade files. If the update notification is not showing up on your Mate SE smartphone, just head over to settings-update to get the upgrade.

Coming to this device, the Mate SE is not really a new smartphone. Because it boasts the same design and features of the previously launched Honor 7X budget smartphone. The Huawei Mate SE has an upgraded RAM and storage only, all other features and the design part are same as the 7X. So there is nothing great to get excited about this device. However, this indicates that Huawei is planning to release more midrange smartphone models in the Mate series.

It has a 5.9-inch, 18:9, FHD+ display with minimal bezels, HiSilicon Kirin 659 chip, and a dual lens 16 MP + 2 MP camera—all of which can also be found on the 7X. However, inside it has an extra GB of RAM (4 GB instead of 3 GB) and twice as much storage (64 GB vs 32 GB). The Mate SE is currently available for only $229.99 on Amazon.  This is a great device if you are looking for an Honor 7X like a smartphone with more performance and speed.
