Samsung blocks Bixby remapping apps on Galaxy S8/S8+ with an update of T-Mobile

Woah! Samsung wants their devices to work as they manufactured. Yes, Samsung restricts the hardware customizations. Samsung’s new phones Galaxy S8 and S8+ come with a dedicated button to activate their newly introduced digital personal assistant – Bixby. But soon after that, many developers had released some apps for remapping that button for various other functions such as camera shutter.

But Samsung killed that ability. Last week, We reported that T-Mobile released a new update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices. But they didn’t reveal the changelog of the update. They hid it for not letting their users know that they blocked the remapping of Bixby button. Now, it appears that Samsung has found a way to block these Bixby remapping apps for the Galaxy S8 and S8+, but for the time being the issue only affects those phones bought via T-Mobile’s official channels.

So if you are buying a new Galaxy S8 or S8+ from T-Mobile, you won’t be able to remap your Bixby button for any other functions. However, some developers are still working on it to find a workaround for this restriction. So hopefully, they will release a new advanced technique soon. Let’s wait for a good news.
