Mediatek launches Helio P70; an improved version of P60

Mediatek releases the new Helio P70 chipset for midrange performance device, as a successor to the Helio P60 Chipset launched early this year. The new processor comes with more improved performance, with the same build and GPU. The company also promises improved AI capabilities and performance as well.

On the technical side, the Helio P70 by MediaTek is manufactured using the latest TSMC 12nm FinFET process, which uses less power than most other smartphone processors in the same ground. The company also integrates a new APU with a combined MediaTek NeuroPilot AI-engine multi0threaded processor. The Artifical Intelligence processing capability has been claimed to have peaked for 10-30% more than the preceding Helio P60, says Mediatek. The octa-core CPU uses four Arm Cortex-A73 cores with a clock speed up to 2.1GHz and four Arm Cortex-A53 chips at 2.0GHz processing speed. The wireless antenna supports 4G networking with WorldMode modem.

The camera support for the MediaTek Helio P70 will also be nourished with a real-time beautification mode support and deep learning capability in photography. It also supports camera sensors up to 32MP single one or 24MP+16MP combo for rear and front. Three independent ISPs are also deployed to work with image processing.

With HDR-capable displays and photography a key trend for the latest smartphones, the P70 is unique among peers in its focus on real-time HDR capture, recording and processing and its hardware-driven ability to process RAW HDR images. Other HDR-centric enhancements include RAW-domain multi-frame HDR capture and Zig-Zag HDR,” added Mediatek.
