LeEco Le 2 Full Hands On review : Beast at an affordable price

Le 2 : The incredible experience on affordable budget

Chinese manufacturer LeEco (LeTV) has entered into powerful range of devices from mid range to flagships, in order to acquire the global Smartphone market, especially Indian. As a part, company had held a returning to Indian market with rebranded LeEco name, launched LeEco Le 1s and Le 1s Eco with attractive price tags, last year. Those devices hadn’t failed at all, but could not achieve the goal calculated by the company due to their fair build quality and some negative reviews. Also the overheating problem dragged them down from the deck of smartphones.

LeEco has launched LeEco Le 2, the successor of Le 1s, last month with some awesome specification configuration equipped and with the fixed issues and build quality complaints, which were always following the Chinese OEM. Company has introduced a flagship device also along with the Le, the Le Max 2 with a huge 6GB of RAM. Company mainly aims slingshot of Le 2 towards its main opponents from China itself, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Lenovo Vibe K4 Note , Meizu m3 Note, etc. All of these devices carry almost same hardware configurations, but some have priority on certain things over other. Let’s explore through the LeEco Le 2 review and decide whether it would be suitable to your life.

Design and display

The mid-range smartphone LeEco Le 2 features a 5.5-inch Full HD display, with 401 ppi pixel density. The way which LeEco configured the display position is attractive, as well it has only a small distance from body to display (bezel). Navigation buttons are completely touch with solid icon, hidden under device color and will illuminate. On the top of the display, we could see the proximity sensor and 8 Megapixel front facing camera. Company provides protection to display panel with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The graphics output is as better as its opponents like Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Lenovo Vibe K4 Note. One of the issue I found on the display panel is that the glass bends a bit inwards while applying a little bit force on touch. We can feel it while touch and hold for moving apps, copy/paste and many other occasions. This drawback shows the lack of perfect build quality on Le devices, as like in the case of its predecessor, Le 1s.

bottom

There is a company badge on the back panel, which is written as Letv instead of LeEco. It is not obvious why they had used Letv badge, but company will reveal some information soon. Design-wise, LeEco Le 2 smartphone earns a better position among premium looked smartphones. The device is wrapped within a metal unibody shell, with diamond-cut like edges. Even the volume rockers and power button are made of Aluminium. The large camera module and the fingerprint scanner equipped just below it gives a gorgeous look to the device. The antenna (escape) lines are placed at the top and bottom of rear panel and the bottom edge. Portions outside of the both antenna lines are of plastic, to let the signals escape through ’em. At the bottom edge, there locates the USB Type-C reversible port, which lies in between two grills. One is for Speaker with Dolby Atmos, and the other one is dedicated for the Microphone. In an overlook, we can understand that the Le 2 stands uniquely as compared to other devices.

Operating System – EUI

LeEco packs the Le 2 with company’s own EUI (5.6.013S) based on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. The EUI shows a resemblance towards iOS by look, even from settings panel to quick access settings. There are dozens of pre-installed apps available on the device, some of them are LeLive, LeView, Levidi, etc. Company calls the preloaded OS build as a stable one. But as a user, we could figure out that the EUI is not at all stable and a little bit buggy as earlier. In-built-in media apps like Music, Video are sometimes crashing frequently. But nothing to worry, company had provided a Feedback and bug report area for users. The unit we received has got another odd error, that in the ‘About Device’ section, CPU  was entered as Snapdragon 820 instead of 652. The latest update to EUI 5.8 solved most of the issues and have been added a new app named Phone Manager.

Camera

LeEco Le 2 Full Hands On review : Beast at an affordable price 6LeEco Le 2 sports a 16MP primary camera, as well as an 8MP front facing camera. The performance boasted by Rear camera unit is impressible, and better than Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Meizu m3 Note and Huawei Honor 5C. No evidence of noise has been found, except in Low light. The Autofocus rate is good, but sometimes it fails to determine the touch focus spots, and to decide whether to focus or defocus the spot.

The front camera of 8 Mega pixels is also somewhat impressive and can take perfect selfies with the in-build ‘beauty’ feature on Camera app.  You can checkout the camera sample images from both rear and front cameras.

Performance and features

As described in the scenario above, the LeEco Le 2 carries a massive hardware configurations inside its shell. The device runs smoothly on any factor and it succeeded in maintaining RAM management section. The all new snapdragon 652 with Adreno 510 GPU lets the device to run flawlessly. Most of the High-end graphics games from Google Play Store run without giving any chance to lag for a single moment. Multitasking capacity lacking is not at all a nightmare on Le devices.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

As it run smoothly around all apps, some pre-loaded apps from OEM crash sometimes and will kill your patience. The time taken to detect the fingerprint by the biometric scanner is just 0.4 second, but it lags for some micro seconds in some devices, which not a serious issue but expect to fix on next update.

Usually the Snapdragon chipsets are known for their battery draining and heating. But the improved Snapdragon 652, which performs better than even SD 801 and 810 , fixed all the problems and give somewhat better battery backup which a normal 3,000 mAh pleases. Still there are some issues with the firmware and will be fixed soon on next OTA update.
