Coolpad Cool 2 launched with 18:9 screen and IPX4 water-resistance

The Chinese telecom giant, Coolpad unveiled their latest offering in China. Today in a press meet, Coolpad announced the launch of their new smartphone Coolpad Cool 2 in the country. Cool 2 is a smartphone made by Coolpad in an association with LeEco. This is the second smartphone with this partnership. 2 years ago, LeEco’s former CEO bagged the major share in the Coolpad and has joined as the Chairman. At first, they launched Coolpad Cool 1 Dual smartphone with this partnerhip, now the Coolpad Cool 2 leads the joint venture.

The new Coolpad Cool 2 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440) display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D Curved Glass on top. It runs on an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 SoC, paired with a 3GB RAM. The higher variant has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The storage capacity of the base variant is 32GB. It can be expanded using a microSD card. The chipset has been clocked up to 1.5GHz. Indeed, it is an underpowered chipset with average performance. It has a dual camera setup on the rear side with a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 0.3-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front side, it has an 8-megapixel camera for the selfies.

The connectivity options in the Coolpad Cool 2 includes 4G VoLTE, 3.5mm audio jack, Micro-USB port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS etc. The smartphone comes with a 3,200mAh battery, and it runs on Android 7.1 based custom UI out of the box. It has some additional features such as face unlock, IPX4 water-resistant etc. However, the company hasn’t announced the pricing of the smartphone yet. The device has just launched in China and is expected to arrive in India soon. But still, it is really tough for the company to attract more customers in India because of the recent data theft scams related to Coolpad models. Also, LeEco has a negative image in the market after its wreckage.
