WeChat blocked in Russia; Tencent apologizes

Finally, it is official, WeChat has been blocked in Russia. The tech giant Tencent on Saturday apologized for the inconvenience of their users in Russia. Along with that, Tencent revealed the reason for the blocking issue.  According to them, it wasn’t properly registered with the regulations of the Russian government.

“We’re experiencing a block and we’re deeply sorry,” a company official said in a blog post. They also stated: “Russian regulations say online service providers have to register with the government but WeChat doesn’t have the same understanding (of the rules),” So it is officially blocked in Russia and you have to wait for some days to get it sorted out.
