The next flagship smartphone from OnePlus was expected to be named as OnePlus 4. But the company CEO recently claimed that the next one would be OnePlus 5 through a teaser image teased “HELLO 5”. The reason behind the unusual nomenclature is because of the pronunciation of “four” in Chinese. It sounds similar to “DEATH” or “UNLUCKY” in Chinese.
As they have done with OnePlus 3, the company will probably add a humongous amount of RAM in their next smartphone too. The OnePlus 5 will be the first industrially made smartphone to feature 8GB RAM onboard.
OnePlus 5, for the first time in company’s history, will sport a dual camera setup. From some of the leaks, it seems like the company is going to equip dual-camera on both front and rear panels. The rear camera units will be of 12MP dual sensors, while the front camera department specs are still unknown.
The previous smartphones from the OnePlus were all packed with different types of body panels, differed one to another. The OnePlus One came with Sandstone back, OnePlus 2 with Sandstone, Wood, and Kevlar while the OnePlus X came with a complete glossy glass panel on the rear. The OnePlus 3 and 3T were the complete metal devices. For this time with OnePlus 5, the company is rumored to mold the device with Metal body and a ceramic covering on rear top half.
OxygenOS on OnePlus 5 won’t get too much difference compared to the one in OnePlus 3 and 3T. It will run Android 7.1.2 onboard, will be also assuring OTA update to Android O. We must expect some more tweaks on OxygenOS UI.
The display of OnePlus 5 is expected to be an AMOLED with 2560p resolution. But let’s see if the company is going to stick with the FullHD resolution in order to reduce power consumption. The device will have a narrow bezel, but will not be merely a bezel-less design.
The battery pack of the smartphone would be around 3600mAh capacity with Dash charge support. There would be no Wireless charging technology, but we cannot reject the possibility of it.
OnePlus will surely make the OnePlus 5 available globally. According to reports, the company would provide only 6GB RAM variant in US Market, while the Chinese to get 8GB variant first.
The selling of next OnePlus smartphones also will be online-only, but users can test and experience the device through some of the OnePlus Experience Stores that are recently opened in several cities in of India.
