Qualcomm unveils new Snapdragon Wear 1200 wearable platform and Snapdragon 450

Qualcomm today launched the Snapdragon Wear 1200 chipset, along with 14nm Snapdragon 450 and the screen embedded fingerprint scanner at Mobile World Congress in Shanghai. The Wear 1200 aims to run on the low-end wearable gadgets and single-purpose IoT devices.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1200 is the successor of Wear 1100 comparatively 45 percent smaller measures 79 sq.mm in size. It sports a 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 with added support for LTE Cat M1 and NB1 technologies, consumes lower power and provides up to 10 days of LTE Standby for longer battery life. Still, it is enough for data transfer and ensures seamless data connectivity over the web and even enables high-speed VoLTE voice calling.

It also includes the GPS, GLONASS, Gallileo, BeiDou connectivity alongside Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Qualcomm’s rapid charging technology for selected devices. It supports Qualcomm’s Secure Execution Environment, a hardware cryptographic engine, hardware random number generator and TrustZone for its enhanced security. The Wear 1200 will be equipped with basic fitness trackers rather than the Android Devices (Supports Linux and ThreadX operating systems) and is ready for shipping.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC comes equipped with the octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 and is the new entry to the Snapdragon 400 Mobile Platform tier. It is designed to replace its predecessor, Snapdragon 435 and promises a 25% boost in processing speed using 14 nm fabrication. It also brings significant improvements in the battery life, graphics and performance, imaging and LTE connectivity over the S435 chip.

It is integrated with Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU which increases a 25 percent in graphics performance for the gaming activities. The S450 brings Quick Charge 3.0 supportability that takes only 35 minutes for charging a normal smartphone from 0 to 80 percent and offer 30% reduced power consumption while gaming. It can also take pictures in high resolution, supports dual cameras (up to 13MP+13MP) or single camera (up to 21MP), and can record videos in 1080p @ 60fps with slow motion. The Snapdragon 450 boasts the USB 3.0 which enables speedy USB data transfer.
